Legal use of Crown Land in British Columbia

Camping on Crown Land is legal. Over the past several years many website visitors have come to tracksandtrails.ca to find out how to camp on crown land for free.
I have finally found a government document that details exactly what is allowable use of Crown Land and what is not. In a nutshell, one can use crown land in BC and I believe it is the same for all of Canada to hike or camp on. However, you cannot cut green (alive) trees and you cannot create permanent structures. If one wants to use crown land for business purposes, special leases can be applyed for and obtained from the Government of B.C. For links to this official document, check out my blog post at
